I believe there are drums on the backside of the rotors. They are just like a drum brake but you need to get to them from behind the rotor. Not at all easy. I'll check You Tube to see if someone has done that.
Have someone press the normal brake pedal fairly hard while you tap on the "hat" part of the rotor with a hammer. Be careful to not hit the studs. Might not work the first time, but keep blasting it with WD-40 or equivalent and try again a few times. Pressing the brake pedal attempts to hydraulically release some of the tension from the rusted mechanical emergency-brake parts.
You're right. I just looked it up as a part and they have the drum brake.
Okay greentsarfish03, revising my instructions above: Tap on the "hat" part of the rotor with a hammer. Be careful to not hit the studs. Might not work the first time, but keep blasting it with WD-40 or equivalent and try again a few times. (this is with the wheel off and nothing on the lug nuts)
Make sure when you're spraying WD-40 (or equivalent) you are spraying the parts inside the drum, but not necessarily the shoe'* friction material directly.
is there slack in the cables going to each linkage on the backing plate of each brake? If there isn't, then the shoe is expanded against the inside drum of the rotor....
Thanks everyone I really appreciate the responses. @Tech II@carfixer007@CathedralCub
I dont think I have that style brake. I just went out and took some pictures. My actual brake pads are pressed very frimly against the rotor.
4th picture you can see the bottom of the e brake line as it gets to the rotor before it gets to pic three.
This is my mane issue. I scoured youtube and i cant find a video or anything that tells me how the e brake mechanism works on that car. If I knrw how it worked I could probably get it free.
again i really appreciate the help. Check out these pics and let me know what you think. At this point im not even sute what to spray or hit bc im not sure how that little cable is forcing my pads up against the rotars.
It is the drum. The area I circled is a rubber boot that protects the cable end where it pulls on the cam that spreads the shoes. Get a drift or something that you can hammer it to open up and loosen the grip of the shoes. If you try and remove the caliper you'll find it comes off along with the pads. That is NOT your problem.
