I also went ahead and ordered a new AC compressor, since it was leaking and that'* hopefully why the ac stopped working after we had it fixed. It is the only place where we could see the dye that was put in.
And now SAY HELLO to my new(used) engine.
If you look on the drivers side of the engine you will see a black bracket that is sticking up, that goes to a dog bone that is then secured by the rad. Mine doesn't have that but they will leave on and I can install it if I want.
Any idea how that low of a mileage engine ( original engine in the car) can still be around? The car was brought in about a year ago, it was rolled, and other than the roof and windshield it was in awesome shape.
now for the donor car.
It'* a 1988 Trofeo. Only way I found the year was on t receipt saying what the Vin number was.
jr's3800: I still plan on tearing into the engine, maybe not right away though. My friend also figures it is a rod bearing, he just couldn't pin point which cylinder it was from. He also said the knocking sounds like a wrist pin(sp?) or a few other possibilities. He is also curious to see what went wrong. He will laugh at me for taking pics of it though, he can't believe I take pics of the stuff I do ( car related)

Well I know that a bearing ( or 2) are toast. He just mentioned that it sounded like a rod bearing went out, that may have caused a wrist pin or whatnot to go out. It is really hard to tell from the video, but he was there and had an up close and personal listen.
So I and he( friend) agree that it is a bearing, and by the sound it, sounds like a rod bearing and not a main bearing. He just said that is sounds like more than just a rod bearing and is curious to see just how much and what kind of damage was done.
I am just hopping that it is not that much damage, cause I get to keep the old engine( wrecking yard didn't want the core), so we are going to open it up, and maybe, just maybe get parts over the winter and slowly rebuild it, so in case something else goes wrong I have a backup plan.
The only thing that concerns me now is the transmission. It will let go, that is a guaranty, I just don't know how much life is left in it, especially since I already have the engine out. But as Murphy is usually over my shoulder, I say that the tranny lasts a few weeks, maybe a few months before it goes out, probably at a really bad time when we really need the car, kinda like this time, lol.

I was thinking the same thing, but I did notice in the pics I took, that at least one of the drive shafts are out, so who knows if any water go in it. For now the tranny has been good, so I will just have to hope that it will last a while longer. I mean it'* not like it usually gets driven that fast or far often.
Usually Renee is the one driving it and it stays in town. But since it was running so good, we decided to take it with us out of town. It was probably on it'* way out without us knowing about it, I bet the Mobile 1 full synthetic I have been using helped prolong the engine as long as it did. She doesn't even drive it over the speed limit at all, except on this last trip we took, I got her to pass a few cars that were driving slower, and she started to enjoy it, she did mention that 100km/h ( approx 60mph) is kinda slow, posted limit is 90km/h.
Of course it had to go out when I was driving, especially after she had mentioned that every time I touch the car something happens to it, but that is just the luck we have.

Mike.. it was bound to happen. Just because you were driving..lol A buddy has the same luck.
Glad to see the new motor. You may want to consider a custom airplane shifter, it'* in the toronado!
A really bad bearing and rod issue will punch through a cylinder wall or oil pan. Being that yours didn't do that yet, I'd say you are going to find the typical no bearing left on a cylinder or two.

That, along with the fact that I work on the road and am about 4 hours from home right now I know that if I would have had the garage do it, it would probably be running by now, but since my friend ( the one I keep mentioning) no longer works there, I don't bring my car there anymore.
