General Motors, in a press release dated 2/4/05 announced that the Bonneville would be removed from the Pontiac lineup effective with the release of the 2006 models. It will be replaced with the G9, a RWD performance 2-door coupe with an inline 9 cylinder engine with 603 cubic inches of displacement, and a reworked Allison transmission. The G9 will also be available with a base drivetrain L27 mated with the more reliable 4T60E tranmsmission in an effort to regain reliability. As long as they make it (whatever it is) faster than the 300C v-8, ill be happy. I hate that hype on that thing so much! Pontiac definately needs to do something to boost sales on the Bonne

DETROIT: General Motors on Sunday said it will soon halt production of its Pontiac Bonneville – an enduring name on the US car market -- due to declining sales.
Rick Crooks, a spokesman for GM'* Pontiac division, said production would end in June of the full-sized car that took its name from Utah'* famed salt flats.
GM employees were informed of the car'* imminent demise in an internal announcement made last week, Crooks said.
"It'* a declining large-car market and Pontiac is trying to realign its (product) portfolio to where the market is," Crooks told Reuters.
He declined to comment when asked if the Bonneville name, which has been used in Pontiac car lineup since 1958, would be revived for some future vehicle.

On a lighter note the local news station had their business guru state, after he made the announcement concerning the Bonneville, that he owned one back in the early 90'* and it had negative gas mileage which is why the line was being discontinued. I still want to call him and let him know that my Bonneville consistently gets 26 to 28 MPG and is a great riding car.
