All i know is that i will have my Bonneville LONG after they end the line (which may be sooner, may be later) and i will still be on Bonneville Club and thats all i care about.

However if they do kill it before the 50th anniversary i might just have to run a Boneyard Bonneville throught the front doors of GM headquarters.

Make them think about what they did while they pick every last piece of the 3600 lb car out of their foyer.

G'day!

I'm so confused! And don't tell anyone on the Forum. They think I know everything.

We've had rumors flying for about 2 years now, with 2003, 2004, 2005, and now 2006 as the end date, but it'* obvious that GM has at least worked up to this point.

Do you really think THIS time is it? Are we correct, or is there any truth to the Bonneville really being just rebadged as a G8? Or is the G8 a totally different animal?

We've heard SO many versions of this........

On a side note, had you heard that Jim retired? Duties with the new lady in his life, and 2 Olds forums proved too much. Gonna miss having him as part of the team,

but he made the right decision for himself. He leaves us with MANY thanks, and in the utmost grace.

Hi,

I think this is really it for the Bonneville. xxxxxx, as I think I told you, has a contract position at XX xxxxxx. And he brought home a GM newsletter that talked about Bonneville’* demise at the end of 2005. I think the GXP saved Bonneville for another year, but wasn’t enough to bring it back to life. I’m sad because the Bonneville nameplate has been around for almost 50 years and there’* no doubt that Pontiac needs a large luxury sedan. The GP can’t fill that role. I mean, I like the GP, but it doesn’t offer the spacious luxury performance that a Bonneville GXP (or any Bonneville, for that matter) provides.

As for the coming G8, I really haven’t heard that much about it. I first heard about it two years ago when conversation about the Grand Prix getting a V8 began. The Grand Prix was supposed to be called the G8. Then the GXP came out, first as a Bonneville and now as a GP.

I kind of look at the G6 as a combination of the Grand Am and Grand Prix (price-wise that’* where it now falls – it’* in the lower GP range). And then the G8 would combine the best of the GP and Bonneville. Like the Bonneville, the G8 could combine luxury and performance. Still, whether we’ll see a G8 next year or two years from now remains to be seen. I’m optimistic that the chances are good.

You can check out Bob Lutz’* blog story about Pontiac. There weren’t many mentions of the G8 either from Lutz or from people writing to him, but…here it is:

http://fastlane.gmblogs.com/archives..._the.html#more

BTW, I always figured you knew everything too. But since I never write on the forum, your secret is safe with me. J Meanwhile, I will always try and provide info to you when I can.

As for Jim’* retirement, I hadn’t heard. I’m going to miss him too. I liked talking to him. But as I’ve learned, it must be hard enough helping to administer one forum. If he is taking on admin duties for two Olds forums, as well as working and trying to have a social life, he only can do so much.

So, who is replacing Jim as administrator?

My feelings match yours on the Bonneville, but I guess money conquers all. If it isn't selling, regardless of who is to blame, they have to dump it before the 50th, I presume.

Do you mind if I share some of this info (edited for names/clues)??

Yep, money does rule at GM and most companies. For years the Bonneville has had a loyal, but smaller following. Still….

Of course you can share any information. Just remember that the following comments are more conjecture on my part than anything else:

I just hope there will be a G8. If Bonneville is going away, there better be something fantastic to replace it. I’ll let you know if I hear anything more on that possibility.

That'* interesting to hear. Still no true confirmations yet, but it seems to be becoming more of a reality for everyone that this might be it.

My source and the other people named are very close to the SOURCE. I'll leave it at that. So you can see that even within the SOURCE, there are some unknowns.

I didn't say any of that. But my source (and Don and Jim'*) is a very reliable, trusted, and usually correct person. This person'* thoughts and conclusions are based on fact, and knowledge of how the market works with regards to these models. Well-immersed in the 'cesspool of american auto manufacturing'.

My source will now contact me on email asking what I think my source would be doing in a cesspool.........

Well guys the G8 could be a very exciting and potent car. Its way to early to know much but it may be RWD and have a very potent engine, handling and looks. So Im just trying to say its not over for great full size exciting Pontiacs. I was surprised to hear they would consider to discontinue Bonneville before this G8 was ready.

http://www.freep.com/money/autorevie...e_20050209.htm

From this morning'* Detroit FreePress: an article on the Chicago Auto Show:

"The DTS uses 275- and 291-horsepower versions of the same Northstar V8 that powers the Lucerne. It will be built alongside the Lucerne at the Detroit/Hamtramck plant. That plant will cease production of the big Pontiac Bonneville sedan this year, freeing up production capacity for what GM hopes will be higher sales of the new Buick and Cadillac."

This is not to say that GM might not bring out a Pontiac version of the Buick with a V-8 in the future. Anything is possible....

Actually those are entirely diferent platforms. The IS300 the the Toyota Altezza in the Japanese market, and it'* about $20k. The ES sedan IS a camry with differnet lights, and more "luxury". The Lexus brand was created for the US market, like acura and infinity, so we would consider them upscale cars, instead of toyotas, hondas, and nissans.

The G8 better knock the socks off of what'* out, the 300, the new avalon, TL, G35 (ok a stretch, but same price) etc.
