No AU0? Wow, that is very interesting.
Yup, the driver'* side ground bus is a player in this, and I know you mentioned that you did the check and clean, but if you have any doubt what-so-ever, do as mentioned above and remove the bar to insure it is in top notch shape as this could cause the symptoms you've described.
I took a look at the wiring schematics from my 97 FSM and it also shows that that the MALL itself gets its ground on the passenger side ground bus, so taking a look at that side is also probably worth the effort. In the '97 Manual, grounds are listed as G201-passenger side and ground bus C332 and G202 - driver'* side and ground bus C340. The 97 FSM doesn't show a G200 or G203. Maybe they changed things between the years. :?

The wiring diagram that showed the grounds as 200 & 203 are from an online database at the public library. It appears they number them different than the factory manuals. Strange how close they are to the factory numbers.

FWIW, I took a look at a 1997 Bonneville dealer brochure and it indicates that remote keyless entry was standard for all SSE models. So if you have an SSE than you should have AU0 on your RPO sticker and you should have an RFA under the passenger side of the dash.
Remote entry was not standard on SE models, though, but was a stand alone option or included in a package.

Can't find the remote code....
. Although I do admit I need glasses to read, I'm pretty sure the remote keyless code is not listed..... Something else strange from my original problem description: Initially I would be getting the ding sounds, full interior lights, and working power locks only sporadically, maybe once weekly, maybe twice daily. Since I placed the first post, and continuosly ever since, as soon as I get into the car, all the interior lights come on, and stay on until a full ten minutes after I park, and exit the car. This also goes for the power locks working, and the DIC working. From once in a while, and never predictable, to constantly on. It isn't possible to shut off the lights unless I pull the fuse, but they shut off after 10 minutes. It'* a bit of a cop target driving at night with a dozen lights blazing away like a landing strip inside the car. I will re-check, dis-assemble, and clean both driver & passenger side grounds just to be sure.[/img]

Oh boy....do I feel stupid, now. For good measure, I went out and checked my RPO label, and.........I also do not have AU0 on it. I checked the FSM and it indicates that AU0 is certainly the code, but maybe if you have an SSE or SSEi then it is included and not listed on the label seperately...I don't know for sure, but I use my remote daily and I don't have the code either. So, since you have an SSE (as cleary shown by the "Z" on your VIN), and the brochure I was referencing indicates that all SSEs came with remote entry, then I suspect you do have remote capability and an RFA module under the passenger side of the dash.
Now, on to the next issue. If your interior lights are staying on then it may be connected to your MALL problem or a ground buss issue if that ends up being the case, or the RAP (Retained Accessory Power module) could be bad. Again, I am not sure, so I will need to read about the interface between the RAP and the MALL, but I suspect that the RAP is OK and either the MALL is bad or a ground buss is doing something wacky.

AUO on the label
In an earlier reply you did in this same post, you posted a pic of an RPO label showing the AUO code, I assumed it was your label to show me what to look for...

Weather warming up?
We are supposed to get up to +1 degrees here on Saturday (33 degrees for you southern folks), so I should be able to get out and do a little connection cleaning on both ground bus'*. Yahoo, if that;* all it takes to solve this, otherwise, we'll be getting into MALL diagnostics I guess.... I am gratefull to all for your help, especially being such a newbie, with no helpfull Bonne info to offer, as this is my first.

I swiped that RPO pic from another member, here, since i did not have a pic of my own label. I guess until now, nobody really asked about the AU0 code on the newer Bonnevilles, as that pic came from a '93 SSEi.
Although you say you have no helpful Bonne info to offer, you actually have helped me learn about the AU0 not being present on at least the '97 Bonnies (and proably '96 and newer), so I see that a great help for many in the future
Hopefully (I guess ) you'll find a ground bus with some evidence of corrosion on it...either side could be the culprit. If not and we don't find a loose or shorted circuit then I really suspect the MALL is bad. I am confident that we'll figure it out.

ordered a remote
Echo, I figured I'd plan ahead, and ordered a remote for my car. I guess we'll know for sure if mine actually has the option, when I can't get the remote to do anything... Even the site where I bought the remote tells you to verify that you have that AUO code before ordering.... I figured I'd wing it, and hope for the best. Let'* just assume that some of the SSE & SSEi models had the option, but not the code listed...

Being that you have a 97 SSE, the Keyless is standard equipment...
Sometimes the AU0 on the 96+ cars is not listed as its part of an option group...
The SSE with 1SA should have Keyless as a standard feature.. For the SSE and SSEi you either had 1SA or 1SB
If this was an SE, it would be a different story as you have to have the 1SC to have keyless standard.. For the SE'* you could have 1SA,1SB,1SC or 1SD( which would also include the SLE option Group( H4U ) without H4U in the RPO listing )
