I thought you wanted to have it on the ignition circuit so you didn't need to open the door and lean back in to press the button?

Installer said red wire must remain hot at all times for the computer to work right.
oh well.

correct, red wire is battery and red/white is to an ignition controlled source instead of a retained power source.
