sorry about the long hiatus, had a lot of work to do. I waited for a good cold night (59F) and I pointed my little electric heater at the PCM under the dash and the problem came back with a vengeance. I'm convinced the problem is under the dash.

If it coded it will store the code into memory. The tool you are using to retrieve codes probably only reads the PCM and only the public (generic) codes. You need a better scan tool to read the other modules.

I would pull the module and warm it directly. If it fails it'* likely a bad solder joint. We fixed a lot of modules by removing the cover and soldering all the grounds and any bad looking joints. Just be sure to use heat syncs where needed.

heat sinks? like besides the one that'* permanently attached to the computer?

If you solder a leg to any semi conductor devise you'll want to clip the leg between the joint and the devise.

I had a friend of mine look at it, He had had a similar issue with his monte carlo, the terminals inside the ignition switch were charred completely black. Needed to be disassembled and cleaned, the car hasn't had a problem since then. My car thanks you for your help in the diagnosis process.
