Well look what we have here...

http://www.caraudioclassifieds.org/f...ad.php?t=63708

The sub I want, brand new in box, for $220 shipped instead of $240 shipped.

And the Sundown SA-10D2 $120 + shipping

That'* actually $60 above my budget, lol. However, if you say that it will have everything I need, I'm going to heavily consider it. Would the ID subs I posted a link to not be as powerful or as clear as this one? How are they different? Just learning here. Is it really $80 more of a sub?
I have the ID series 12'* and when I had them in my car they were in a large ported box, 4 cubes tuned to 30Hz and were getting about 450rms each. Those ****'* pounded! I did not expect that much bass from some SQ subs so I was loving life. What I really liked about them though is that they were very fast and transient, I could play any of the various types of music I listen to with no problem at all. Wanna listen to some Jeezy? No problem! Wanna listen to some Disturbed? Piece of cake! How about some Jewel? (Don't judge me ) With pleasure! No muddiness, just chest kicking thump from the little subs that could

That being said, the Q'* have a stronger motor assembly, higher thermal handling, better SQ, better power handling and can dig a little deeper than the id series. You know what I really like alot about ID? No matter what series sub you buy, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. Yes, the ID line is the lower series sub but make no mistake about it, there is nothing entry level about their output. Yes, they have a low power rating but they can handle alot more than their rated power. Not only that, but they are absolutely breath taking on very little power just the same, that'* what really sets them apart. Super efficient, super clean, can get loud and without the boominess or muddiness of similar subs.

I guess it depends on your definition of "serious money". At this price point you're gonna be hard pressed to find a sub as well rounded as the IDQ, the thing has amazing SQ but can get busy when called upon. It can't compare to your 15" in SPL but they won't get mistaken for 6x9'* either.

The Z or the Nightshade?

Ya know man, the more I think about it, the more I think you would be better served by the Sundown SA line. Let me explain....

You're used to the chest bashing bass from a 15" sub, a Sundown SA10 is going to have way more SQ than your 15 by default. But with the same exact motor assembly and specs as my SA12'*, the SA10'* will have less SQ than the IDQ line but will get louder easily. I think it'* going to be hard for you to truly enjoy the output of some bonafide SQ 10'*, i'm thinking you might want to take a smaller step backward than going from SPL 15 to SQ10. The IDQ'* are alot more musical than the SA'*, they'll walk all over the SA'* when it comes to SQ, but the SA'* can handle upwards of 1500rms while asking for more! No way would I ever consider giving the IDQ 3 times rated power. I just think you'd be better off with something that
a.) can utilize the full power of your amp
b.) will have a bit more output than the more SQ geared IDQ'*

How would you compare the output of an IDQ to that of an Alpine R12 in a ported box? If I can get around that level but with unsurpassed SQ in a sealed box, I think I'd be perfectly happy, and from what I'm hearing, an IDQ would do that for me.

Do you still think it would be severely overpowered if I ran it in Dual 4 ohm? That'* only 1100W, and that 1100W is likely overrated too.

I think I'm pretty sold on that IDQ in Dual 4 configuration. I think in the future when I have more money I'd probably get a second one and have two of them in a sealed box. I am really sick of the SPL to be honest with you. The output of my R12 in the Bonneville is something I would be 100% content with. I am getting increasingly disappointed in my sound system. I find myself driving entire drives to work and back (35 minutes each way) not listening to a single song because I don't like the bass. If you turn it up a little louder, it sounds almost ugly. Its powerful and loud, but its not something you can listen to on a daily basis for more than a year before you get sick of it.

I have a very good feeling that if I went with an SA sub, I would be constantly haunted by the thought in the back of my mind thinking "I wonder how much better this would have sounded with an IDQ" regardless of how good that SA sub would sound.

Type R'* are a very nice entry level sub, one of the best subs at $120 or lower, retail, excellent bang for the buck. But it'* more of an SPL sub than SQ. The IDQ does a better job at blending SQ with SPL. And if you're going sealed, that'* where the IDQ shines, it'* calling card if you will.

Do you still think it would be severely overpowered if I ran it in Dual 4 ohm? That'* only 1100W, and that 1100W is likely overrated too. If you get a dual 4 sub, you can wire it down to 2 ohms, I think your amp does 1100 at 2 ohms so yeah, way overpowered. You should get a dual 2 and run it at 4 ohms. Then if you get another you can wire the pair to 2 ohms

Its powerful and loud, but its not something you can listen to on a daily basis for more than a year before you get sick of it. If you're gonna keep your current amp, dual 4'* won't work well for you, with either 1 or 2 subs. A single dual 4 sub will get wired down to 2 ohms, your amp does 1100 at 2 ohms, not good for your sub. 2 dual 4 subs can be wired to either 4ohms or 1 ohm, two of these subs wired to that amp at 4 ohms isn't enough power, wired to 1 ohm is way too much power. You'd need dual 2'*. A single dual 2 would give you a nice 4 ohm load to your amp, perfect power! 2 dual 2'* would give you a 2 ohm load to your amp, again, perfect power!

I have a very good feeling that if I went with an SA sub, I would be constantly haunted by the thought in the back of my mind thinking "I wonder how much better this would have sounded with an IDQ" regardless of how good that SA sub would sound. That being said, get the IDQ, you WON'T regret it

Excellent! Good idea with the getting the Dual 2 ohm with the plans for upgrading in the future based on my amp'* output. That allows me to keep the current amp and have the ability to upgrade in the future. That, and 550W @ 4 ohm should be plenty of power since these can get pretty loud on pretty low power. I'm going to guess that if it can do 1600W @ 1 ohm, that 550W @ 4 ohm might be a bit underrated.

Anyways, I've made my decision, thanks to your help.

So when you gonna order? Need me to sign for the package for you?

I think these little 10'* are gonna put a smile on your face, especially if you put them in a .9cu ft. enclosure per sub. I've got a few projects going on, one of which is a 2cu ft. sealed enclosure for my ID12'*. But that'* after I finish my 3 cube ported box for my SA-12'* and my 1.75 cube box for my DD 2512. Then I can do some critical listening and decide which setup I like the best and sell the rest.

Let me know how that works out for you. Part of the reason I want this 10 is because I need the trunk space really bad for my trip out to California in January. I'll probably order it once my Diamond 12" in a sealed box and that 15" are sold. I hope I can get at least $200 for both of those.

The Z v1 15. I'm pretty sure they were like $370 + shipping when they came out. The v1 Z'* were US made (by Jacob) and were a high quality sub. I got one of the last ones when he was clearing out old stock for $200 shipped. I think I remember Jacob saying that it'* probably his favorite sub (as far as daily sound quality) that he'* made.
http://sundownaudio.com/index.php/pr...series-15.html

I've got mine in 3 cubes net tuned at 35 hz with about 42 sq in of port. It plays strong from about 30 hz up to 65-70 hz. It'* especially loud in the low to mid 40s range. It'* definitely the most accurate sub I've had. The only thing is I'm starting to get used to it and kind of want something louder. I listen to a lot of metal and the bass drum hits sound (and feel) great with this set up.
