I'm guessing its a solar sensor for the climate control. Not sure what it would be doing on a car without climate control, however....

Yea, I got one to. I always thought it was for the gauge lights inside the car. Whenever that sensor senses the sun is going down or the light is becoming dark outside, it automatically turns on the gauge lights. (Speedo,Tach,gas,etc...)

The sensor to the left does that, along with turning on the headlights. It'* the Twilight Sentinel light sensor.
