I guess it is a combo of the heat + glycol that breaks em down.
After i replace the uim/lim does it matter what coolant I use?

Whatever you want really. If you were running dexcool before I'd reccomend making sure the system is flushed out before putting regular coolant in it.

you cant just put regular green in it. i use the prestone ext life because its universal fit, the quads, take regular, the cars take dex except the firebird. its just easier to have the prestone around. and im not using dex i have seen it turn everything brown in a few cars with under 30k and a couple years old

I've seen that too with the Dex. Too much artery clogging sludge that requires too much flushing.

I've been using the regular green stuff for years with no problems. Tastes good too.

the old green is mostly just ethylene glycol with very little corrosion additive, and that wears out and disperses. you have a ton of aluminum in your system and it ends up being corroded very quickly if you dont use the newer designed coolants that are for newer stuff with all the aluminum. seriously its 11-12 bucks every couple years for the prestone EL at walmart, why not use the right thing. you cant even get 3 gal of gas for that

Wife called me from the gas station, "my car won't start!". Had her pull up the voltage on the driver info display, 9.2 volts. So I had to go jump her. When we got home I thought no problem I'll throw my optima in it from my pick up. Yeah that didn't work because of the terminal placement and the way the battery cables hang off the side of the battery. Since it was after 5 the only place open that had a battery was Orlilleys so I shot down and picked one up. I really want a interstate, I'm thinking I will order one this week and try and return the Orlilleys special. I took her car to work tonight, at my lunch I will hook up the tech II and clear all the low voltage codes I'm sure it set.

interstates last alot longer than anything else i have tried. the best deals i have got are the "all battery" stores. its been 10-15 % less than what they list on the site. the retail location prices are at or above.
