I got this call last night from my realtor. I guess the lumber company/wall builder screwed up and sent 9' first floor walls instead of 8' walls. The build crew didn't notice till they had a lot of the outer walls up yesterday, from what I'm told. Now, the lumber company ate most of the additional cost, but, if we want them to go ahead with the 9' walls, it will cost us $600. Or they will tear down the walls and put up 8'. I think 9' walls for 600 is a pretty good deal...
Well, from what she told me... $600 is the price difference between 9' walls (and all that goes with it, siding, brick, wiring, paint, drywall, etc.) and the time for taking the 9' down and putting up 8'.
So if you had ordered 9 foot walls it would have been a lot more than $600. It'll cost a little more to heat & cool but I'd still go for it. $600 isn't that much spread out over the years you'll be there. If you like to wheel & deal you could ask the realtor if they'll split the difference & do it for $300 to keep their customer happy.
You'll really appreciate the 9 foot ceilings Wik. Stick with it. When the time comes in the future to sell, advertising 9' ceilings will help up your asking price. You will however have to pay more for drywall and paint

9' foot ceilings is a selling feature, most houses are built with 8'. Think of it like advertising a Jacuzzi tub in an ensuite bath, or heated garage or something. Its not a typical thing to have so, it becomes a lux feature.
