What year is your Impala, and how many miles on it?

This should hopefully give more insight on the code:

https://www.obd-codes.com/p0730
Symptoms of a P0730 trouble code may include: Check Engine Light illuminated (Malfunction indicator lamp) Delayed shift or not shifting into correct gear Transmission slipping Loss of fuel economy
Potential Causes: Causes of this DTC may include: Low or dirty transmission fluid Worn pump or clogged fluid filter Torque converter clutch, solenoid, or internal blockage Mechanical failure inside transmission Internal blockage inside transmission main control Faulty shift solenoids or wiring Faulty transmission control module
The transmissions can also be plagued by a problematic pressure control solenoid, however that typically shows up as a "Long adaptive shift" type error. That fix could be a simple as installing a shift kit.

If you override the transmission in to second, does it still slip? I am curious if it is trying to grab 3rd and there'* nothing there, or if it is just completely slipping everywhere.

if you put it on second it drives better but still does not go beyond 50 km/h 60 at most with 4.000 rpm.

i used to get that long adaptive shift error code, but didnt pay attention to it.

my fear is that i would need to buy a new transmission, i heard that rebuilds or repairs (if theres a mechanical failure) arent worth it.

If fluid level/color is ok, could be several things.....

Bad 2/3 solenoid(or circuit grounded), third clutch, 4th clutch, etc.
