Default OBDII Scan Results.. Help....

I went to Advance Auto Parts and had them scan my car'* computer. The check engine light came on a lot when I bought the car, but since I did a minor tune-up.. plugs and wires, and especially after I had VIOC run some chemicals in to clean the intake, and fuel system, this check engine light rarely ever comes on.

My car sometimes won't start, but if I remove the key, and insert it again, it starts fine. Still no check engine light..

My engine also runs a little rough at times, and idles rough too. It'* sometimes smooth as silk too. and it also seems to have that shudder in overdrive like many others have described in different ways . this happens at 1500 rpm range mostly. Maybe I should also mention I hear an odd sound like a rough hummm when I'm at 1500 rpm, and have the A/C on. My wife mistook that for the power steering pump, since it sounds similar when it'* low on fluid.. (gotta fix that leak too) ..

Anyways, the slip I got from Advance Auto said:

P1406
Manfacurer contrl.
Auxiliary emission controls

Thanks, Sam B.

As for the funny sound/feel at 1500, my car does that too. It'* not actually the a/c, it'* whenever the blower fan is on for the HVAC system.

Strange, eh? Haven't figured out why...

Anyhew, check the link at the top of the page that says tech info to check what that code means...

I took a look in techinfo and couldn't find a P142 or P1142. Anyone with a 96 FSM that can help out it would be appreciated. Yes I googled it!

On the blower motor...haha Only when the A/C'* on and only in my 97. Driving me nuts but it'* working good...

It looks like the code is one digit short. Aren't they typically 1 alpha, then 4 numerics?

If you add a "0" after the "P", I'm showing:

P0146 O2 Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected (Bank 1 Sensor 3)
That doesn't make much sense with the problem he'* describing.

right

what I meant was, no combination of what he had made any sense with the codes listed, as far as what he was told it meant. possible they just screwed up writing it down...

Sooo... step #1 - get car re-read. get the right code

just let them know that it should be a 4 digit code... maybe even take the list I made up there with you, and make sure they've got it right before you go...

oops. I did miss a digit. I edited above on my original post. I'm sorry about that guys.

It looks like maybe this is it?

DTC P1406 Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Position Sensor Performance

What is that, and how do I remedy this?

I will say, I couldn't find info on this at any parts store locally, but you guys seem to come through for me.

Thanks again.. now what do I do?
Sam
