Heat cycles? So that'* what really counts? I think taking it easy for the first 500miles will be SUPER difficult for me.. but uhh sounds plausible.
The first week of August we are going to Florida.. and I think we are taking my car. Probably because mine gets twice the fuel economy on the highway. Is that going to be alright? I can probably get in 100-200 miles in by then if necessary.

You'll want some mileage on it to ensure it'* ready for the trip. How does it feel, drive, what are the gauges doing. Any excess burning off the motor once the new burns off.
Check the fluids like they are your own blood supply. Be overly cautious, but I doubt we need to tell you that.

lol oh yeah. No problems on that. I'll have a trunk load of fluids if we take the beast. My mom and I will be limited to just one small bag .
If I were to do the trip, should I change the oil when I get to FL, and when I get back home too?

Well i'd drive the beast for about 50 miles around town, THEN change the oil, and then you'll be fine for the trip. Remember keep the speed to 55-60 or under, no hard accelleration, and 'll be fine. Then yes change it when you get home.

Hope your trans is ready for it........
I fully agree with Alec on that, and yes try to change the oil ASAP when you get down there.

55-60? Have you ever driven through Alabama? You'll get PLOWED with anything under 80. Oh man, we're going to get rear ended .
Alright, well we'll see how it all pans out. Wouldn't I get even better fuel economy at 55-60? Even more entising to take my car.

I dunno... Does he really have to keep it under 60 mph for a head job? I can see that for a complete rebuild, but I don't know about a head job. Seems excessive to me.
If you DO take it to Florida, and you DO feel the need to do 60 mph... maybe you should stay off of the interstates. You know, take roads with a lower speed limit so as not to get in the way.
And I know that my car at least loves to do 60 mph. I'd say that 60-65 is my MPG sweet spot.

Eh, you've never met my mom. Not taking the interstates.. ha, not going to happen. She'* so anal about stuff, and she doesn't like to change 'her routine.' So umm.. it'* just doing 60 on an interstate. It'll be fine. Follow behind a semi or something, the drafting i'll get will surely net me some awesome fuel economy.
