As my 2007 Grand Prix V6 accumulates miles (105,000 right now) what problems should I keep my eye out for?

Other than routine maintenance (oil & filter changed, new air filter, new brakes/tires) we have not had to do anything to the car. I am thinking about having some "cosmetic" items done, but am more concerned about what I could expect to go wrong.

Some of the basics I'd do if they have not been done would be things like changing the fuel filter, transmission fluid, and power steering fluid.

Inspect things like ball joints, engine/transmission mounts, control arm bushings, etc.
Consider replacing struts if they have never been replaced, if you replace any of those things, or if the car has not had a 4-wheel alignment done recently, then having one done would be good to do.


Do you have a supercharged motor, or the naturally aspirated one?
Either way I'd highly recommend getting the lower intake gasket replaced with the Fel-PRO aluminum lower intake manifold gasket, the old nylon one that is on there is known to fail, and that can possibly lead to catastrophic engine failure.
Both motors will have the same lower intake manifold gasket, so if you ever tackle the job and need parts numbers let me know.
The plastic coolant elbows are known to get brittle and break, they make some aluminum coolant elbows now that are a better replacement elbow, again if you need part numbers let me know.


I am sure I forgot to mention something, I'll check my post again after I get some sleep.

My power steering was making some noise and I sucked the power steering fluid out of it'* reservoir and replaced it 3 times with Royal Purple PS fluid. It quit making noise. I have found this Royal Purple brand to be good also the synthetic motor oil but it ain't cheap.

100k is a good time to replace the plugs

Check your serpentine belt tensioner. Not only the pulley bearing, but the swing bearing itself. A friend just bought a '98 Grand Prix with only 109K on it, and 3 days later the serpentine belt broke. Dummy that I was noted the tensioner didn't have a smooth feel to it as I reached in and yanked on the belt... and I didn't mention it at all. 'Course the belt was looking a bit 'cracky' too.
Now, the car is in a shop that fixes school busses(!) and is saying that with a new belt the engine won't start, so it needs a crankshaft. I'm seeing it early tomorrow morning with my own eyes...
