Rubber does not flex like silicone. Silicone is there to give way to torquing of the engine, and the movements of the airbox/induction.

Basically it gives, instead of making a solid hookup.

These guys have everything you need to make the intake but filters. 18" lengths of polished aluminum for $26, silicone elbows 45 and 90*, reducers, 90* reducers, hose clamps... You name it. You can get a 45* 3" elbow, pipe, reducer if you need it, fro the price of the rice pipe at Autozone.

Ooh, here'* a thought. Get a 2.5" pipe, wrap it in bubble wrap insulation, put it in a 3 or 3.25" pipe. That way, you get insulation AND the pretty polished aluminum pipe.

My 9" K&N has a 4" flange. The rice pipe is 2.5". What'* the best go-between?

The pipe we've used is 3".

Putting a 2.5" inside another one will severly hurt the cfm.
