When we got into town we stopped and talked for a minute and the guy in the Vette said he was doing 167 and he wasn't losing me very fast. He said that I was definitely the toughest competition he'd ever had and never thought I was going be able to keep up with him that well.
Later I sent my tire size, my gear ratio and my rpm'* to Ed Peter'* (A Chrysler engineer back in the late 1980'*/early 90'*) and he calculated it out to being between 155 and 159 (tires are never identically the same size between brands although they may be marked the same, especially if they are worn down compared to new).
Sounds like the Vette'* speedo was a little optimistic.

My kids NEVER go that fast with me. Kim has been fast before, but not THAT fast. Remember, with my conservative parent-style driving, even 85 feels fast to her. Even with a 'consenting adult', I won't exceed 120. Period. No exceptions.

The problem I have now is the rate of accelleration. I have to watch it when the kids are with me. The simple act of passing 2 or 3 cars puts me at an ungodly speed now.

She wasn't supposed to post that speed, but to give proper credit, it was in Eastern Oregon, clocked on the hud and my gps (and a Gtech), and it was a long straight road that I could literally see for 10 miles, dropping into a valley. And no passengers. Not a car in sight the entire run. I'll never do it again. I calculated my theoretical at 156, so that'* close enough to know it'* close (even though I had to use the drag coefficient of a Mustang......does anyone know what it is for the Bonneville?).

Had mine up to 120 before I let off due to traffic. Wasn't even breathing hard either. Without that limiter, I could imagine 140 being possible. And I haven't even installed any of my go fast goodies yet.

I believe it will do the theoretical in 3 rd gear, 155 mph, with the stock 2.93 gearset.
It may go faster in 4th with a conversion to lower final drive ratio.
The HUD and wheel speed sensors are limited to 159 mph....so the book says.

You have to be careful with the limiter because it will kick down into 3rd gear under 128 mph and then the 108 mph 3rd gear limiter will arrest your speed.
Careful throttle application in 4th will see it go up to the 4th gear limiter of 128.

I can hardly wait to get rid of those pesky limiters.

The fastest I've ever gone in the Bonny is about 115MPH, is that where the limiter kicks in on the early style cars? The fastest I've gone is A car is 183MPH, now that'* moving!
