Did a ball joint on a 1994 Century yesterday. Nothing like banging and cutting things on a car to end the day.

Finished my Aztek today, new transmission, new cooler lines, power steering return hose, oil pan gasket, rear main seal, lower control arm bushings, alignment and 4 tires. Glad to have that thing off my hoist. Then wrestled 4 new tires onto a 2010 Camaro SS.

Had a customer come in complaining that when they put oil in the car, it immediately showed up on the ground. They stated they didn't know where the car had been last time for its oil change, so we agreed to take a look at it. I climb in the car and look for a sticker, come to find out I was the one who did the work last.

I pop the hood to check the dipstick, and there is oil EVERYWHERE! All over the engine, on the underside of the hood, on the bottom of the windshield. It looked like they had run the engine with the cap off. Also, the dipstick had oil WAY over the max line. I decided to raise the car to make sure the drain plug was tight, which it was. I got to looking and saw that there was fresh oil all over the back side of the engine. On the block, on the headers, everywhere.

My diagnosis? Dumb driver took off the cap for some reason, ran it with it off and got oil everywhere. Then tried to refill the engine in the dark and missed the fill hole, causing oil to hit the ground like she said. After that she did it the next day and overfilled the engine.

These kinds of people should not be allowed to drive.

Just be glad you didn't do what I did. Back when I worked in a shop, I did an oil change on an Impala I think, either way, it had a 3800 in it. So, I did the oil change, took the orange cone off the top of the engine, back it out the bay and parked it. I started another job in another bay and when I came back 2 hours later, I noticed sitting on the floor in front of my tool box was the 3800 plastic engine cover. #*^#^#@_*($#&!!! I took it to the shop manager and explained why I hadn't reinstalled it. After owning a 3800 since 2003, I never had the cover installed, so it didn't dawn on me that the customers cover was missing. He laughed and told me to use the company truck and take it to the owners house which was a few blocks away.

Every single 3800 that has come through I've put the bigger filter on, instead of the "correct" filter that the book specifies. Just looking out for my 3800 brethren.
