UPDATE at bottom, gas IS being stolen!!!!! (PERP CAUGHT!)
I went outside this morning to start the car up so I could head out to Cleveland to drop off some stuff I sold on craigslist. Get in, crank it, no start. Crank......crank.......crank.... nothing. Look down at the gas gauge. IT'* AT E!!!!!! I know for a fact that I had a little under 1/4 tank in there, and now it'* gone. Can gas easily be stolen out of our cars, or do they have a screen to stop a siphon from going in there? If not, looks like I am picking up a locking gas cap.
Apparently whoever is stealing it knows it takes premium, as my Dad'* Durango has never had gas stolen from it.

Ahh, I think you're being paranoid... That'* how it is with a lot of cars, if you're running close to low when you turn it off, the car might read it as empty when you turn it back on. BTW, you do have a locking gas cap
(when you lock your doors, it locks the flap)

Oh no, it'* dead empty, won't even start. I know I had around 1/4 tank, as I got 7 gallons the other night when I parked it. so yes, it'* missing. No holes in the tank, no rust on the tank, or fuel lines, so no leaks.

90% of the time, a theft is a crime of opportunity. I don't think they took your gas because it was 93 octain. Gas can be stolen out of anything if the person wants it bad enough, 4 feet of 3/8 inch fuel line stuffed down the fill neck with a mechanical or electric pump would be easy to do.

there is a screen that prevents gas from being removed in this manner.
On the SSEi'* several years had locking gas caps.

Hans, I may not have the screen, I just went outside and did it with a 3/8 vacc line. pulling it back out was a bitch! I am not saying you are wrong but as to my car it can be done. I hope nobody lives near me and reads this.
UH OH. I am suspecting a weak fuel pump now. I cranked and cranked and it finally started. The gauge went up to just above the yellow hash marks, after running, so I'm good. I think my fuel pump is on its way out. :(
