well it'* rusted. maybe i'll just get under there spray some hi-temp clear on it to slow down the rust.

Day5 questions

remaining issues with car.

there is still a slight noise that comes and goes in the front of the engine. it is very quite and subtle now. in addition when you shut off the engine it make a sound similar to 'dieseling' note the car has a brand new harmonic balancer so it is not that. i am assuming something in supercharger nose cone. i just didn't feel like poking around with the scope tonight. plus i'll need someone to start/stop engine while i am under the hood.

tomorrow i plan on investigating further. will the l67 start/run w/o supercharger belt?

also have a draw on the electrical system somewhere. i'll start by pulling fuses tomorrow and see where that leads.

any reason to run different that oe ac delco spark plugs?

Just to add on to this quickly, yes you can run without a supercharger belt. I don't know what the noise could be, but at least that'* a great way to see if it'* coming from there. If you detach it and rev a lot, the engine'* vacuum will spin the supercharger some, though.

you CAN'T run the engine long without the SC belt on a s1, as it runs the waterpump. you can only run without a belt on a s2 all the time.

Day6

the remaining subtle noise is def. a belt driven accessory [just started engine without]. i am so glad this engine is this quite and idles so nicely.

anyone able to tell me if any gearlash felt in the supercharger when turning it by the pulley is normal?

seems quite and has not points of added resistance turned over by hand. don't seem to feel any play either. of course beind 1/4 to a 1/3 the size of the crank pulley it'* probably spinning @ 4000 rpm @ idle.

There may be a hair of lash, sounds like the Coupler in the nose drive is worn
conclusion i just drew from reading zilla'* links. his 'rebuilding nosecone' link seems to be down though. :(
