Many people just throw a can of freon in having no clue as to what they are doing. Your A/C system could be properly charged, many other factors can have an effect on how well it works. Such as...
-Cabin air filter dirty
-Cooling fans not kicking on, or only one of them turning on.
-A/C condenser full of dirt not allowing good airflow through.

I'm sure there are other things to list, but A/C systems are pretty complex to diagnose without the proper tools. I suggest taking it to a shop to have it checked.

Probably the best bet. Mike didn't even mention the possibility that it is working correctly, and an improperly functioning blend door is mixing heat in when it shouldn't be.

Well, odds are you are low on freon, which means a leak, which means it has to be found and repaired....

So if a garage, just tops it off, without fixing the leak, it'* only a temporary solution....
