If those elbows are the same as the ones on my 96 Park Ave, then I'd have replaced them with new coolant elbows.
I'm not 100% sure, but I know the elbows are the same on the 95 Riviera and Park Ave, so I am pretty sure they are the same on the LeSabre.
If so it would have been a really good idea to replace those, reusing them is never advised.
They make aluminum ones that replace the plastic ones that are known to fail/leak.
I know you don't want to tear it back down and do that nightmare again, but I recommend it, I'd at least order the elbows, and have them on hand for when they fail.

Thanks but, it does not have elbows and the coolant does not run through the unit, like yours. Mine has dog leg pipes that run behind and around the unit.

They have an O-ring type connection, where they push into a collar, then a screw holds them in place.

At least, not unless they were leaking,but I inspected them pretty good before re-installment. Also, they are not plastic, like the elbows that you are talking about.

I can tell you though, that on 95'* and older (and probly newer), there is a 3/4 nipple, that screws into the engine and accepts a hose from water pump, that is made of plastic and these ALWAYS go bad. I have owned over a dozen of these cars and have replaced every one with a new steel nipple.

I have never "run into" those plastic elbows that you speak of yet but, I would definitely replace those as well, if I did.

Ahh ok, the nipples are cast into the tensioner then, I'll remember that if anybody else ever has a 95' and needs to replace the tensioner.

No problem following up here William. I appreciate all the help from this forum and want to provide any info(help) that I can to readers, in return for my gratitude. That'* why I need to correct you in this response.

The nipples are NOT cast into the tensioner. There is NO coolant running through the tensioner on these first-gen 3800'*. The coolant runs around/behind the unit, through aluminum dogleg pipes, and into the two heater hoses. I hope this helps anyone else that attempts to do this work on this type of 3800. I sure know that all this info would have been a huge help to me,prior to tackling this project.
