Default 96 Buick Regal Torque Converter

I have the 1996 Regal Olympic Edition I was wondering if anyone knows what the stock stall speed is? Should I get the 1420 rpm or 1895rpm?

I would assume one was for the 3100 and the other for the 3800. Which do you have?

It depends much on how it is driven.

If you run 65mph all day every day across flat land, then no.
If you fisticuffs in stop and go every day, idle in traffic for hours on end, and drive it like you stole it from every stop, then yes.

Where do you live? I commute to Brooklyn everyday and most of my commute is stop and go driving. I get 15 mpg with a 97 Olds Eighty Eight.

19 mpg is not bad for a 3800.

Yeah, 19MPG isn't bad for what you're describing.

Thinking of putting a high-stall converter in it? If so, I'd recommend against it unless the transaxle has been rebuilt and beefed up a bit.

Highway mileage for most 3800'* is 30+ mpg(cruising at 65 mph).......stop and go traffic, they are dogs....

We had a guy with a 1996 Riv with a SC'er.,,,,,on long trips on the highway, he said he was getting 33 mpg....verified it by Mileage and fuel fillups........our old Bonneville got about 32 mpg on trips to the Cape....
