1994 Park Avenue HVAC problem
I am helping a friend with his 1994 Buick Park Avenue 3.8 V-6. After having the battery disconnected for about 10 minutes, we discovered an air distribution problem. Now we have air directed toward the windshield and floorboard rather than from the vents on the dash. We are unable to change the direction of the airflow. This model has the automatic type of AC controls rather than a manual slider type. Please advise.

Update on HVAC problem
I am still looking for a solution. This is a vacuum operated system but do not find any disconnected lines. My guess is that there has been a “spike” issue such as happens to the fuel gauges when they spin beyond the peg during a battery disconnect. We made an error in that the AC control was accidentally left in on position rather than the off position. I do appreciate any thoughts on this subject.

The air output selector if I remember correctly is vacuum driven by the ECC Unit in the dash (the bit with all the buttons). I believe it has vacuum lines on it, which go to a vacuum tree above the passenger footwell.
I have a similar issue, so I will likely need to dive in there at some point anyway and start sorting it out.
No telling when that will happen though.

This mystery is now solved. Sorry for the delayed reply but my friend has the vehicle in another location. Additional searching did reveal a disconnected vacuum line. Tech II was correct in his post but we did not spot the line at first. We now have air from the vents as it should.
