Default AC w/ electronic climate control problems

I have a 99 SLE w/ electronic climate control. The problem I am having with the AC is no matter what setting I select for the mode, the air always comes through windshield/dashboard. The air will not come through the vents. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to get the problem solved before the summer.

You might have a vacuum tube off in the engine compartment. It'* a small black, 1/8 inch diameter plastic tube. It goes to the right side of the car from the intake manifold, then splits at a "Y". One side goes to the plastic vacuum storage bottle under the right front fender in front of the wheel; the other goes into the car.

If you take it off at the storage bottle and get a whoosh shortly after turning off the motor, you're storing the vacuum.

You could have a vacuum problem distributing it inside the car. Ifyou have dual auto air conditioning the connector at the programmer for the plastic tubes has little nipples inside that suck down and block vacuum. BUT this is usually only to the dash vents on that line...

You say you have NO control over the vacuum flow. So take off the hush panel under the passenger side dash-5 or 6 screws. I prefer to take down the glovebox lid, which is 6 screws or so and with it out of the ay you can easily see the programmer box.

You need to pull apart the purple vacuum line where it meets the black line coming into the car and see if you get vacuum there while the motor is running.

Since you have NO vacuum: check under the hood first and see if the bottle is cracked or disconnectod. Take the easiest to fix choices first.

imidazol is right. Your issue of not being able to control/direct airflow is vacuum related. If you remove the "hush panel" on the passenger side (black plastic piece underneath teh passenger side dashboard and if you hear any hissing, it is probably the vacuum connector (a clear/rubbery piece that has many colored vacuum lines entering it that is connected to a black distribution block.) What happens is the black nipple ends collapse and prevent the vacuum from being distributed to the right actuators to direct air to the selected vents. Here is another post to a link with the complete write up and fix.
