Dutch2005 - thanks for your responses. I finally was able to pull the box out of the compartment far enough to see the FCC markings. Then I did a search and I found the box. Someone is selling one on ebay.
It is a Commando car alarm. The remote I have matches the second remote I believe. See the seller other items. The nice LCD remote must be the one I'm missing.
My conclusion so far is this is not the remote starter, but is the separate factory alarm bypass and additional alarm. I have noticed that the horn honks (which I hate) even though I have told the DIC not to use that option.
Are my assumptions correct and there are two independent devices that each require programming with the FOB - the alarm bypass and the remote starter? Would I need manuals for both?
I'm on the verge or having it all ripped out, but the remote start IS kinda cool.

I wouldn't rip the system out just yet.
If its working just be patient alittle longer until we find out exactly what is going on.
The remote that you have looks like some of their R/* remotes too.

I doubt that your vehicle has 2 different systems (seperate brains for R/* & Alarm)installed as this is usually a pain to get them to work properly. Most units come with one brain that functions as a "combo".

Is there a alarm siren under the hood ? When the alarm starts sounding is it the horn or a siren ?
Alot of times Installers will hook up the horn to the R/* apon request so that it seems more like OEM. For example with a factory FOB you press the Lock button twice and the horn honks as confirmation.
The R/* is connected to the car to disable the factory alarm or the factory anti theft before remote starting. You do not need manuals for both.
I wouldn't rip it out yet.........we will get this working for you

Contact Commando directly and give them the FCC numbers on the back and let them take the guess work out of this for you. They will be able to tell you for sure what unit it is and provide you with a manual and remote.

Thanks, there is no siren, just the horn honk, which is active when using the remote. I sent an email to Commando and Scytek but have not heard back from either company. Although the box on ebay is the exact product, it doesn't match anything that Commando currently sells that I can find. I also found the name and address of the car'* previous owner on the title that was just sent me from the Iowa auction. I mailed the guy a letter asking for help, but it went to an apartment address so I'm not holding my breath that he still lives there. I'm almost afraid that if the guy calls me he'll have some horror stories about the car.

i know that some alarm companies will not give out their manuals, as they are ment to be for installing professionals only, at least where i work @ circuit city (we ONLY sell directed products, Python, Hornet and Valet) but Directed Electronics Inc will NOT give out the manual/install guide to ANYONE, and we are NOT supposed to give it to the customers..Clarion has the same policy, as i have had dealings with all the other shops here in town and most say that they cannot give out the manual for liability reasons, if this system in your vehicle IS one of those 2 systems, at least thank God its not a Bulldog system, we've had multiple cars come in where the bulldog system actully fried out portions of the computer control system...

To clarify just slightly, Directed'* install documentation is only limited on alarm and remote start products. Install manuals on audio gear, as well as all owner'*/operating guides for almost all products are availible as downloads on the support page @ www.directed.com. A lot of companies and retailers will not share support info with customers directly primarily due to liability issues, which I can't say I blame them one bit.

While I agree to some extent with what has been stated by BlackIce & FireDevil, these are extenuating circumstances.
If you explain the situation to their tech department they should help you out or at least provide you with the name of an Authorized dealer in your area.

in my experiences, companies like DEI, Code/Audiovox tech support will not talk to you directly until you give them your dealer account info. But as you said, they will refer you to a local authorized dealer.
