In our 95 we have the same radio. The CD player quit working a few years ago. I got one from a 99 Grand Prix and it works great. Exactly the same radio.

I only meant that the 95 radio was differant because I've had the 95 and the 98 radios apart and there gutts are not the same.

Yea, the internals did change a bit, but the radios should operate the same. i don't personally have a 7-band CD that i am getting rid of, but do have several cassette players. If you are driving it out here, I'll let you try one of them to make sure it is the radio and not something else.

From the sounds of it, it does sound like it in an internal short or bad connection somewhere.

Hay, i need a working display. Would you want to part with one of those radios? I have a 98 7 band Cd that needs a display. Its a easy swap.
