Default 1993 Factory stereo

I have the Delco factory, AM FM CASS, equilizer and 8 speakers with gain control, its a pretty good stereo and i dont want to put an after market stereo in there because i just cant afford it, i want to put in a stock delco AM FM CD from around the same year as my car, does anyone have this stereo and if so is the cd player any good as far as playing burnt cds?.......oh and what are the ratings as far as wattage on the stock stereo.

The CD player that is directly compatible with your car comes from a 92 or 93 Bonneville only. I'm not sure if they will play CD-Rs. ACGSSEi has one. Those CD players are rare, but you do see one on eBay every so often. They usually go for around $200.

I had your same dilemma, and elected to go with the CD player from a 94-99 Bonneville, except mine came out of a 2000 Trans-Am (same cd player). I've heard that the earlier models will not play CD-Rs, but mine plays everything I put in it. The only thing that I haven't tried is a CD-RW.

The only problem with using the later CD player is that it is not a direct fit. There are some wiring/mounting modifications that have to be made and there are also some issues with the climate control. Let me know if you are interested because I have gone this route.

Or go with an RF modulated changer for the trunk like I did. 10 disc changer plays through the FM band. Works great. I use a cassette adapter occasionally to use my MP3 player, also.

Ayup; mine'* doing fine, although I've never tried playing a CD-R in it. I'll borrow one from somebody when I get a chance, unless someone else here with a factory '93 CD player knows whether it'* compatible.

If you're looking for a plug-in swap of a factory CD player like you said, pay attention to the year of donor car. Like fuddyduddy121 said, it must be from a '92 or '93 model only, because it contains display driver wiring for the fluourescent climate-control display above the stereo. It'* a lunatic way to wire a car, but that'* what they did for a couple of years.

(Maybe that'* why the resale prices on eBay are so high...?)

I was wondering that myself today. I have a '94 SSE with I think the same stereo as SSEiMatt93 with the Gain and equalizer, AM/FM Cassette...Anyone know the total Watts on it? My friend asked me yesterday and all I could tell him was that it was decent for a stock system. Thanks

I just bought a reconditioned ACDelco Radio Cassette for my 97 Bonneville from a place in Michigan. It only cost me $79 on sale but it was usually $179. They have tons of ACDelco and Bose items and my item was shipped in 2 days.

Am I allowed to post a link here If so, I can post it. Just let me know. I am not affiliated with the company and have nothing to gain but helping other Bonnie people find Delco stuff. It took me ages to find them.

Cheers.

No problems, like I said. I cant endorse them except for the 1 order I have placed with them. The radio looked like new, packed really well and it was shipped same day and arrived in 2 days. I was very happy.

Heres the link to their Delco page: http://www.mnrelectronics.com/electr...coradios1.html

I still have another issue with that cars audio system though, probably speaker related I think. Anyone else have Bose speaker issues - like having low and distorted bass ?

Cheers,

Yowzah! 16147922 looks an awful lot like the correct ETR cassette stereo for my '93 SSEi. I've always wanted to have one in reserve to swap into the dash for long trips -- listening to books on tape, etc. Hey, I love my Delco CD player, too, but sometimes I want to hear cassettes...

I've bookmarked that site already.

P.*. Don't forget if you're ordering that the _Pontiac_ units will have red backlighting; most if not all of the others will light up bluish-white instead.
