Default Factory Stereo Replacement

I am trying to get a navigation system installed in my 01 and am having trouble finding anyone that can do it.

Anyone have information on some possible bypass for the factory radio in this beast? It has the dock & lock system with the ribbon cable connector in the dash. I am investigating possibly making my own extension cable and putting the factory radio in the trunk somewhere. Seems as though the only thing I lose when the radio is out though is the door chime. All other systems seem to work okay.

Does anyone have any tech info on the radio system in the newer ones? I am looking for wiring pinouts for the connectors and/or wire colors for speakers and the like.

Any help would be appreciated.

Although I didn't do the installation myself, I had an Eclipse In-dash DVD player w/ screen put in about 2 months ago. I too had problems finding anyone who would do the installtion. The only thing I can tell you is that you need to hardwire the unit and run all new wires to the speakers. My car was tore up for nine hours doing this, so it is not an easy job, but that is how the installers did mine. If you have anymore questions just let me know. I can give you the number of my installer also if you would like to talk to him.

Default Navigation/DVD Player

How much did the unit and the installation cost you? Is it just a DVD player or does it double as a DVD player and a navigation system? Just let me know..I'd appreciate it! I too have a 2001 SSEi and wanted to do the same. Thanks!

Default Re: Navigation/DVD Player

The unit cost me $1,900...and it can act as a navagational system with the added hardware provided by Elcipse. The installation ran me a couple hundred bucks i believe, but then again he was a friend of mine so it might be more for normal customers. If you need anymore info, let me know.
