Default Oil Pressure Gauge

All - the past couple of weeks the oil pressure gauge in my '00 SSEi has been pegged at 120lbs.

I think I remember this happening on my truck sometime ago, the RH valve cover was recently replaced -- so am I correct with the following order of things to check

1) Trash in sending unit (can this be cleaned?)
2) Sending unit unplugged
3) Sending unit gone bad
4) Bad gauge (I figure 1% chance on this one)

Anybody have any other suggestions?

I woudl bet it'* a faulty sending unit. Debris in the sending unit would cause it to read low, not max.

Good luck and post back with whatever you find as the culprit.

tell me about it.... my mom'* old 90 SE had a pegged oil pressure gauge and just recently both mine and my brother'* oil pressure gauges are pegged at 120, one would think that in the 10 years between my mom'* old car and mine they would have fixed the problem.

Default Oil Pressure Sending Unit Repl

I replaced mine yesterday, not too terrbly bad, it would have been easier if I would have had a large deep well socket that would have fit but it woudl ahve been pushing 25+mm probably. I tried a universal wrench but wouldn't get a good position so I took my Craftsman Robogrips and got it. It wasn't very tight from the factory, and after about 3/4 turn I was able to get it loose with my hands with some effort.
