As , the guys have suggested, get a mechanical pressure gauge on this engine and run it.....

I have run into a problem with the relief valve, but not like this......it was stuck so there was no bypass.....pressure would build and would blow the seal right out of the oil filter.......

If you have a pressure problem, 2 days after buying it, like Mike suggested, could have been a little foul play here....

The oil pressure relief valve can also be stuck on full bypass.

I have heard of the problems with the oil pressure relief valve, but do not have any experience with one having issues myself, thanks for posting that link to Dan'* write-up.
