Default Oil pressure sensor issue

So, I finally got around to replacing my oil pressure sensor. I had oil pressure again for a couple of days. Worked well. Then all of a sudden the gauge started bouncing all over the place and the car was dinging at me. It never got better just started bouncing all over. I checked all the fluid levels, oil, coolant, etc. all fine. No funny leaks anywhere to be seen. No mixing of fluids. Etc. What could be wrong. Bad sensor? I unplugged it for now but I am a little concerned.

Yeah, if these are picky like Fiero oil pressure sensors, use only a ACDelco one.

Sounds like a bad sensor. Personally I replace with an Advance Auto one and never seem to have an issue. Bring it back with the receipt. They'll probably give you another.

Sensor issue resolved for now. I bought a new one. For the general information there are two different sensors. For those of us that have a gauge on the cluster there is a seperate part number for that oil pressure sending unit.

It is GM part number 12584940 for the w/gauge
It is GM part number 12574309 w/o a gauge (only the dummy light)

2000+ have a gauge and the second one will not work with it.

the cheap one at napa worked for me...50 bucks or so.

They only had one option for a 2k SSEi.
