KDG LIM OH SH** WTH did I do..... HELP!!!!!!!!!
They can only invalidate your warranty if they can prove your work caused the failure. If you work had nothing to do with the failure, then they MUST honor their warranty per the Magnusson-Moss act.
Karl... when you say you torqued it properly to spec. What spec did you use for the upper and what did you use for the lower.
It'* partially a loaded question as I am aware of a misprint in the FSM'*. I'm thinking you got them correct though.

Bugsi is right. No warranty. Bought as is from dealer.

Man, that really sounds to be in the valvetrain to me. Also, in the oil picture, you had just done an oil change, so that looks like fresh oil with metal flakes in it.
Come to think of it, the above description does sound like a bearing locking (sqealing), then spinning (the tapping) and the a gradual increase in the volume of the tapping to a knocking (bearing material coming out of the ring). However, that oil, to me, just looks like fresh oil with metal in it. Personally I don't see convincing evidence of coolant in that oil.
But we'll see what the shop finds out.
So what you're saying is? If there is no coolant in oil, it is likely the valvetrain, but if there is coolant in oil, it is likely the lower end?[/list]

I don't see evidence of coolant in that oil. Now, if that were old oil that should be dark brown or blackish, then yeah, I could see it being milky. But it'* fresh oil, with some whiteness coming from the reflection of the metal bits.
It'* really hard to tell.
That pan of oil doesn't look clean to me. Although the angle/flash/whatever might be affecting that view.
If Karl did end up torquing to 40ft lbs on the lower, there is a good chance that leakage occurred.
