Default KDG LIM OH SH** WTH did I do..... HELP!!!!!!!!!

AG,

No the thing was running tip top. After the PCM learn I was doing a WOT run and at 5k rpm I heard what sounded like a belt squeal. I did another and then came the tapping. Very light tapping I should add. Almost undiscernible. Tried one more and noticed a definite lack of power and worsening of tap that then became a knock as I came closer to home. Don't know how far I am going to lok into this. See next post

I believe as was mentioned by someone earlier this was a prexisting condition just waiting to happen. I've only had the car for a month and I'm on my way to the dealership right now to try and get them to do something about it. See ya later.

Well, I went to the dealer, they said they would be willing to tow the car and diagnose it for free and then we'd go from there. Will call them tomorrow and tell them to forget it. If they see the spotless throttle body, goop at lim corners they will know I worked on it. Then they won't touch it. So I will do a top half tear down and start to investigate within the next few days. Also will start looking for a short block. If my ported LIM is screwed in any way I will put my OEM back on. Keep the comments coming though. This thread is starting to get long. Will start a new post when I start the investigation. Thanks for all of your input. It is apreciated. I just reread all my posts. Sorry if it all sounded confusing. I was in panic mode. Alot of the things I was posting were from what happened before and what was happening at the present. Will be clearer in the future.

Rogue, check your inbox.

Karl, the only thing about that LIM that could have caused it is if you installed it incorrectly or it was cracked. Cracking isn't unheard of. I have a cracked L67 LIM here.

Won't know if it was installed incorrectly until I tear it down. I did torque it accordingly though and didn't notice any cracks. How much coolant would it take to wreck those bearings? Like I stated coolant level isn't down since the refill and I've read posts where someones UIM fails and they' re burning the coolant up, cylinders full etc. and no mention of spun bearings.

Man, that really sounds to be in the valvetrain to me. Also, in the oil picture, you had just done an oil change, so that looks like fresh oil with metal flakes in it.

Come to think of it, the above description does sound like a bearing locking (sqealing), then spinning (the tapping) and the a gradual increase in the volume of the tapping to a knocking (bearing material coming out of the ring). However, that oil, to me, just looks like fresh oil with metal in it. Personally I don't see convincing evidence of coolant in that oil.

But we'll see what the shop finds out.

Karl, I could only see the crack after cleaning the manfold. The water evaporated off the LIM quicker on the flat surfaces than in the crack. The moisture highlighted the crack. Had I been looking for it before then, I would have found it though. It'* posted somewhere, and I'll dig it up. Keep in mind the design is different, but the crack concept could apply.
