What about the lower intake? Is that another possible source for coolant finding its way into cylinders?

The lower intake is metal. If it'* messed up, it'* cause of something catastrophic.

this happened to me about a year ago, the CG light came on and the temp was rising into the mid 200'*. I arrived at my destination, being very cautious (they never got close to redline). When we tried to put coolant in the car hydrolocked and quit. We had the dealership take care of it, it turned out to be about $1100. I would suggest you let the pros take care of it if you are all out of options. Nobody will want to buy a car that doesnt work anyway.

i changed both the lower and upper intake gaskets with new ones from Pontiac. the new gaskets have a metal ring around the coolant passages so it wont do whta the priginal gaskets do. that is blow out. i fixed both and inspected everything that was taen off and everything checed to be ok. all cylinders are filling with coolant except cylinders 3 and 5.

not to repeat what'* already been said, but.

wait, i'm going to.

it'* most likely the upper intake. happened to my grandfather in law - i went and replaced it - and we spent a fair amount of time pouring over the old one and never found the leak. gasket was in good shape. we replaced the upper intake and haven't had a problem since...

there'* a lot inside the intake (which is a big part of why it'* a composite to begin with) that you can't always see - so don't assume that you're intake is 100%, cause you can't see 100% of it...

I went to screw around with the car yesterday and discovered that the part you said that would cause the problem. In fact is the cause of my problem. Replacing that friday afternoon will have car back on the street. Thank you guys for your help and for getting me on the right track to solving this.

thanks you guys for the help. i was shocked to see just a little crack like that and both gaskets going at the same time. The parts guy at pontiac said "you must have the shittest luck". i told him "Not really. It gave me the experience and now being able to pass a small bit of info that would help a few people."

Good job! One less thing to worry about. Now are you going to try to sell it again, or hang on to it for awhile?
