Count me in for a failed Delphi on my '96, in addition to the rare cracked head. My head was cracked between the #3 intake and exhaust valve seats.

Both my 96 Olds 98 and my buddys 98 Park Ave just started leaking. Thanks to this site I already knew what to watch for and two L36'* are in the process of being saved.

I was looking to see if any progreess was made on an adapter to allow us to use the series 3. I couldn't find the post, does anyone know off hand?

I printed off the replacement proceedure for the upper & lower. It list torque as 11Ft-lbs. I swear it was something like 90 in-lbs when I looked it up last year. Have things changed for the new gaskets?

I saw Bob'* post on sleeving the UIM, anyone know how to get one from him?

I didn't discover the problem / this forum, until *AFTER* having scraped off the old head gaskets!

popatim, glad you found yours (both of them) in time.

The UIM bolts torque is 89 in lbs

The LIM bolts torque is 11 ft lbs per the '98 FSM DVD.

If he has one ready, just PM him as Bob Dillon. He'll give you the details. I know he was having difficulty getting enough "bad" UIMs to sleeve for replacements.

And congrats on the 2 additions to the extended family.

And nekote, sorry about the extra work you had to do to replace those head gaskets that weren't needed, but there'* plenty of info here for the replacement.

EDIT: My '97 FSM lists them backwards and it didn't seem right, so a couple others helped to verify correct torques using the '98 DVD.

Here'* what the '97 FSM writes, as a warning to all who have it. All pics and supporting steps are correct also, so there'* no way to know that it'* wrong, except common sense perhaps.

On the UIM/LIM, be sure to use the proper torque sequence and procedure!

The Dorman UIM actually comes with a sheet for the torque and sequence to make sure you do it right.

I'll add to this thread with the UIM I had installed by the dealer yesterday. 3rd one this car has had counting the one that came with the car.

This latest one lasted a little better than 50k miles. I guess they're like brakes, you just have to replace them every 4-5 years. :?
