1994 Pontiac Bonneville se 3.8 liter 3800 cube transmission ratio option location
where do I find the information to find out my transmission ratio option? I was told to look on spare tire in trunk cover I looked in the door panels I looked under the hood I can't see what option I need .what ratio option do I choose when purchasing a used transmission?

Compare it against the RPO List, and this tells you what options the car is equipped with, one of which is FDR.
In this particular example, RPO FW2 is listed, which is: TRANSAXLE FINAL DRIVE 3.06
Most FDR'* I believe start with F, so start looking there

hey guys thanks for the info..williams auto parts guy was right when he told me to look on spare tire cover in trunk..just a bunch of numbers to me to decipher. also i looked for the tranny broadcast label on tranny but couldn't find that maybe i have to crawl under car to find it...thank sagain.
hi I got the code as was directed. when I get this used tranny.shoud I flush it first? I was told not to use Transx cause it will harden the seals.i keep it in and don't use it to flush . it'* not formulated for that.if I should flush what do I use? thanks.
When getting a junkyard transmission, I usually removed the torque converter and drained it....replaced the torque converter seal.....replaced both axle seals.....replaced filter and fluid...Had a special attachment to mount to the tranny, and then could slide this attachment into a holder on our table......thus the pan was easily accessible.....you do not want to install a tranny into a vehicle first, and then find a surprise in the bottom of the pan later...
i found a cheaper used tranny from a somewhat reputable used shop..they've been there for years.the only kicker is that it'* the other than fw2 option.nobody had any in stock that i needed for my somewhat nice looking old 'whip' as the kids call em' these days..well it'* a garbage car from the get go nothing but problems used from a friend/customer , that my original goal was to get at least 2 solid years up and running until i can find and afford something sportier and can accommodate my 6' tall self for my adventures oh and don't forget 4 cylinder too..i want to sip the gas not like my 87' ford squire with over 350k on it...she'* a champ for all the miles on her-always in any weather she still starts and runs great and is my work horse...don't get me wrong i've owned a bunch of chevy'* in my time never had ford'* though.i need to know if this fw17 ratio is going to be a problem if i buy and install.the lady assured me that a mechanic wouldn't know the difference.she also told me that it'* a question that'* always asked but didn't really matter,there won't be any difference in 'feel' or errors.one guy said the speedo would be off,another said a check engine light might come on.another said something about the pcm needing to be matched as well..that sounds pretty accurate to me if this is true.It'* been so long that i haven't worked on cars that i'm out of touch on these technical matters. i never have the time to troubleshoot my own or actually complete 100%, i just kept em' running good or so so for years..i do the opposite type of work.plumbing,heating and electrical and if i can give ya' a pick of my brain to help then just give me a holla' thanks again in advance..
