What I'm seeing is the scoring below the top ring. If stuff got down there, it was pushed very hard against the bore.

I'll get some bore pics, but I can tell you that you can barely discern the marks with a fingernail. Soft aluminum vs. a much harder bore.

Sounds like, with a new piston and a simple freshening, you will have a spare bottom end to hang on your engine stand.

Personally, I would build it up with forged pistons. You got lots of time Bill. Buy one piston every month.

There'* so much snow up there, you shouldn't be getting your clothes dirty until Spring.

I can vouch for the soft feel on the cylinder wall, hardly noticable only can feel with a finger nail really.
