Default Under Dash LEDs! UPDATED: July 22 - MORE LEDS

NOTE: This thread was moved around by mods then accidentally deleted by another mod, but it'* back now, and hopefully here to stay in this category.

This is a continuation of a thread regarding the discussion said LED installation. http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...ic.php?t=57125

I decided to increase the level of "pimp" my car has through installing some custom made LED arrays under my dash.

I started thinking 3/side would be sufficient, so the guys said I should be aiming for 30+ per side, since I don't have THAT much patience with soldering I aimed for a more reasonable 12/side 2 circuits, each containing 2 sets of 3 LEDs in parallel. My light socket gave 11.4V so that'* what I worked from.

So here'* the beginning of the process. I used 1/4" foam core on which to mount the LEDs and their wiring.

The next 3 LEDs inserted ready to me soldered.

I had to provide a pic of this solder joint cause I was so proud of it, LOL.

So when each strip was complete they looked like this:

And a quick circuit test before installing them:

Now to installing.

I first had to remove the hush panel from under the dash to pull out the 194 bulb socket and tap into the circuit. The socket removed is shown here:

The strips were flush mounted to the hush panels with some double sided adhesive velcro, nothing special there, so no pic.

So here is the (DIRTY) non-pimp floor BEFORE.

NOW, with optimal pimp levels:

And from the backseat:

And note these pics are all taken during BRIGHT sunlight, I'm going to go out again tonight when it gets dark to take some more pics.

Rock on.

Note: In no way do I condone the act of pimping, or even the use of the word "pimp."

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask.

I can't wait to see the night shots. I may have to take up "LED playing with" as a new hobby. Cheap and will keep me out of trouble, lol.

Looks great. Now let'* see some night shots to see just how bright they get.

I want to do some LEDs but don't want them too bright because I don't want to get pulled over.

I give them 1 month tops before they are fried.

you have to understand that those lights can/do come on when the battery is at all different levels. SO if you have your car running on start up, that bulb will see near 14.5 volts. which... will blow a circuit if it was designed for 11.4

You REALLY need to look into voltage regulators ( LM 317 is an adjustable using 2 resistors) that way those LED'* do not see over their max voltage.

If I came off harsh, sorry, I just had a LONG day on little sleep and the project looks kind of thrown together w/o much research.

also note. If you cut the tips of the LED'* off and clean up the ends with some finer sand paper you will increase their distribution which will result in less spots.

Looks great, An idea arises in my head. However, I do have one question; how in the he** did you run a camera and a soldering iron? Or did someone take the pictures for you?
