1992 Bonne oil pressure gauge
Has anyone else ever had persistant problems with their oil pressure gauge? Mine wen't to max every once and awhile and stayed there for awhile.
9 years on I finally get it fixed, when the sensor broke off and dumped (all the) oil on the highway.
Question, car ran about a mile with quickly decreasing oil levels before finally stopping on it'* own. While this is never a good thing, what is the likely long term damage from this type of activity? I replaced the sensor and it starts up OK again, idles a little different, but nothing major, so I don't think I threw a rod or blew a gasket or rings.
For those playing at home

It started making a progressively louder knocking sound on the highway, than engine cut out at low RPM and kept rolling (with trans engaged). I was able to restart it briefly to remove from road.
I don't think I overheated the heads / caused the rings to touch outside of block .. if that had happened even briefly I think it would have killed the engine entirely, although hence my question.
The shop did start it for a few seconds to listen for some sort of obvious problem (thrown rod?) .. made me cringe

I actually just replaced my motor after it started knocking real loud form the bottom end. no my oil pressure gauge stays pegged out. it came with the motor. I am assuming it;* just a bad ssnsor. I still have my core. just need to get time to change em out. sure that will solve it.
as far as your motor. might not be a bad idea to pull the valve covers off and even the pan to check up close. but I would assume that the motor doesn't have much life left ot it
but depends a lot on how you drive it as well.......... I beat on mine....lol

.. as far as how I drive it, fairly easy on the engine I'd say .. tho it has a lot less power than it used too.
I'm starting to think the shop knocked something when they were replacing the water pump .. from these forums and other info I gather this sensor mounting does not commonly fail (to the extent that it drains all the oil from the car).
