Default Hi-speed wobble while braking - Bearings?????

My 95 Bonnie will wobble and shake like crazy when I lightly tap the breaks while going down the highway arout 50-60 mph. At slower speeds there is a grabbing or lunging sensation when comming to a stop.

Now I have read all of the posts on this subject which point to warped rotors. I have in fact replaced the rotors during the last brake job. It still wobbled some after the replacement. I brought them to another store to have them cut, but the guy would cut them since they had no wear, the were brand new, and his measurments showed no warpage or runout.

If it isn't the rotor causing the problem, what else could it be? Could it be the bearings or the spindle? Woouldn't that cause a wobble all the time? Could the rotor be warped only when bolted on the car? How do I check that?

Any magic potions or spells would be greatly appreciated.

Later.

Could be a number of things...Ball joints, tie rod ends, center link...etc etc...I woudn't suspect wheel bearings until the steering/suspension is looked at first...

Try jacking front end up (both wheels off ground) and while grasping each tire (individually) check for excess play...in all directions..

Good Luck.....

Warped front brake rotors or rear drums. Did you clean and lubricate the caliper slides when you replaced the pads and rotors? The lunging you describe when coming to a stop is a typical description off out of round rear drums.

Well, took the wheels off this past weekend and brought the rotors in for re-surfacing. The guy at Oriellys notiiced a slight "bulge" on one of them. When I came back to pick them up, they told me their machine was on the fritz. Seems the machines "nylon" bushings had worrn out. So, I am out of luck till next weekend.

Anyway, I didn't notice anything wrong with the hub. Seemed tight and not much play. The only thing I did notice was the rotor has about 1/4 inc play back and forth on the hub. But is is centered on the hub so this should be a problem once the tire is in place and tightented, right?

Also, one of the slides on one of the calipers was a llittel tight. I had cleaned them up last time and put new grease. THey ride in a rubber bushing of some kind. Maybe that bushing has worn out or aged. Can they be easly replaced.

More to come after the weekend.

Thanks.

P.*. Haven't checked the rear brakes just yet. Will do next weekend.
