Default 01 saturn rattles

my parents have a 2001 saturn sl2 the engine was rebuilt about 500 miles ago or so the reason it wasit was rebuilt was a rattling sound coming from the engine i believe the engine is a 1.9 dohc the timing chain was replaced as well as the rod main brgs and the oil pump it starts and runs fine except the rattle is still there at a little above idle oil pressure is fine it uses oil like a quart per tank of gas which is to much i have changed the oil twice it hasn't helped the top end wasn't changed or messed with could this be a factor it has all new gaskets except valve seals there is no external leaks but it smokes like a chimmney going down hill. it has plenty of power the only problems i have is oil consumption and sounding like a diesel at part throttle i have a haynes manual but don't know how good they are.thanks for any help

could be leaking oil though the valve guides, and valve issues make it sound like a diesel too

I don't want to sound like a stickler (to the OP), but a little punctuation in your posts will make them a lot easier to read... you will probably get more replies too because readers won't give up halfway through.

An engine that was rebuilt and uses oil and has a rattle? If no warranty on the work, it should never have been done....
