the sc ones have a hd trans, scrap the other and have yours rebuilt, im not for used trans your likely just going to have the same issues and you will be out what ever you paid when you have to have it rebuilt anyway

Physically, the transmission will bolt in. But, electrically, software wise, they are different. And Justin is correct, the 4T60-E is non HD vs the HD version in the 2001 GTP.

You are better off scrapping the 96 to get a new trans for the 2001. The bad thing about the 96 is, HP Tuners won't touch that year. They only support 1997 and up. (should you decide to tune it)

Even with a stock L67 3800, the 4T60-E'* are not able to handle the torque put out by them UNLESS you baby them.

But if its a year mismatch, the computer won't be able to control it like it should. They changed the electrical connector and the shift solenoids over the years.

if you are going to modify it you definitely want to have it rebuilt not buy a used one
