Default AWD grand am

bought a project car 600 buck couldnt resist it'* in pretty good condition 4 door kinda of the ugly goldish color has the 2.4 I4 which grew from the quad 4, for having almost 200K miles it runs pretty strong but has been neglected well been looking around and got an idea im wanting to turbo the 2.4 LD9 and convert the car from front wheel drive and dont get me wrong the car is a blast to drive with as many miles as it has my crazy idea is converting it to All Wheel Drive, i was checking out different brands and set up of all wheel drive set ups buy am having a really hard time deciding which to go with, can any one give me any pointers in a direction to go? im open to any suggestion, as long as plenty of info about the awd system is provided

thankx

My cousin converted a Honda crx to AWD using the rear subframe and components from an AWD Mitsubishi Eclipse...........He also used a Jaguar rwd subframe to convert a (I think) late 90'* Beretta GTZ to awd.....but the Beretta never got finished. He'* done a few other conversions....

He said the most important part is finding the rear portion of an AWD system that uses an actual subframe........don't use a rear "unibody" type of rear awd system because the sheet metal in the project car wont have the correct reinforced sheet metal areas for the awd components to bolt onto.

You'll definitely need to do your homework to make this work. I seem to recall some Grand Ams with AWD, and Pontiac 6000'* as well.

For the Versatrak, as I understand it, it'* intended to transfer power to the back in poor traction conditions. I don't know how robust the system is, but you'll need the transmission to go with it as well. Also keep in mind the most this system will have ever seen will be the 3400 V6, which is good for 170 HP, and not much more torque. Yes, the HD variant of the 4T65E has seen 240HP with an L67, and a lot more torque, but you stick a V8 in front of it, like a Gran Prix GXP engine, and it starts to hurt.

What is your final vision for the car, and what will you be doing with it?

its one of those , the car that pontiac should have built, sticking with the 2.4 LD9 building an awd with forced induction ( turbo, super charger or maybe twin charged) havnt really decided im not saying im going to be building a street racing rig and not saying it'* going to be like a drift or rally car, its going to be something kinda in the middle something along the kind along the lines of the late 90'* nissan skyline
