4th gear

Its not that is shifts harder, sry if i wasn't very clear obut it.
What i mean by hard:
When i am going along and at any time(car is cold or hot) it will shift into a gear(4th or od?) from THIRD and the gear it shifts into feels like its hooked up directly to the tires with nothing to slip on. When i give it a little gas the rpm'* DO NOT go up whatsoever unless your gaining speed.
As opposed to every other gear that has a fair bit of play in the rpm range when you give it gas. I will get a video in a bit.

Do you have a tach? If you did you would see the imidiate drop from 2000 rpms to 1450-1500... I mean the tach just sinks like a rock.... So yes the trans at times keeps the TCC connected between 3rd and 4th, and not having any slip is a good thing... I know you get the same Grrrrrrroooan I do when it shifts from 3rd to OD when the TCC is still applied

It seems like it could possibly shift into another gear. When i am just goin along at 35 it revvs at 1500 rpm in 3rd but if i give it any kind of gas the rpm'* go up a couple hundred more. I was driving and got to a zone where i could go 50 and it was revving at 2000 rpm for a bit(like 5 secs) and then shifted into another gear but was not "hard" like i described earlier.
I have no idea what TCC is so..
It would just be nice to have it shift into that "hard" gear (man i wish i knew what to call it) when i am going 35-40mph. It has pleanty of torque that low so i dont know why it wouldn't.

I watched the vid... The hard gear you are talking about is the Torque Converter Clutch Connector...
It can apply anywhere from 36 - 40 mph with very minimal load.... But again you have to have the operating perameters... One thing that will never happen is you shifting into third with the TCC engaged... You will shift into third, then if all of the perameters are met the TCC will be commanded by the cars computer to engage( feeling like another gear, when all it does is eliminates slip ) .... In 3rd gear crusing at 30 mph you should be able to run at 1500 rpms, but thats too low of a road speed for apply, and on top of that the TCC was not designed to apply at an incredbily low road speed...
Its difficult to explain what the system is trying to do... It varies with driving style and conditions...
If memory serves even when the converter is in lockup mode, there is still a light amount of slip... Applying it a very low speeds may actually create more slip and overheat the clutch..
The bad thing about these transmission is that we can't monitor the amount of TCC slip...
But if you have a scantool, you can monitor the gear switches, and the TCC apply or Duty cycle... There are many factors that come into play when we talk about the TCC...
At this point I really don't know what else to tell you..
Wish I had some vid of my tach and speedo when the ECM applies the TCC at 38-40 mph...

Jr is right. What you're describing is torque converter lockup. Both the 93 and 97 do it. The 97' is nuts, it'll lock up in third gear as low as 30mph.
