Default No 4th gear

No longer will shift into 4th. Don't know if 4th gear crapped out on me or if the torque converter doesnt engage. I'm going to drop the pan this weekend to see if there'* high quantities of metal. Other than not shifting into 4th it works perfectly.
Pending what I find on the magnet could it be 4th gear is shattered or could it possibly be just a solenoid that fried out?

Clutch pack burnt up would be more likely.

No SES light? That'* usually associated with a shift or TCC problem.

Possibilities would also include:

TCC solonoid
Slipping TC unable to lock up
TPS

Does the TCC lock up in 3rd gear as it should? Say at about 36-40 Mph with light throttle?
Yes.
I havent had any Check Engine warnings. and my scan tool is not detailed enough to scan the tranny. I may take it to Aamco to see if they can scan it.

Bill can you explain the TPS? I cant see how that would effect shifting unless it was really messed up. Wouldnt it effect every gear, not just 4th?

A TPS will primarily prevent TCC lockup if it has a dead spot or an internal short. The TPS enhancement mod itself can explain this.

With the TPS enhanced, a very light touch on my 93'* throttle will unlock the TCC, where on the 95, I use about 1/4 throttle before that happens. It'* very touchy.

I've had failed TPS'* cause OD problems on my 94 Suburban and my 93 a couple years ago.

Well, Aamco didnt find anything wrong on their scan. So the most likely culprit is 4th gear splines got chewed off. I've been waiting for an excuse to beef up the tranny, now I have it.
Already been talking to Todd about what to get.

Mine wouldnt shift into fourth, with no codes, because all the splines on the 4th gear drum sheared off, might be your problem too.

Trannys seem to be the thing lately. Mine took a long time to lock up before it went, was actually using 3rd on the highway...not really exceeding 60-65 mph, but i had really no choice..it was between gears non stop, slipping like crazy. Now it connects like crazy, shifts like crazy, and goes into OD like crazy.
Worth it.

Yup, that is precisely what is going on. Confirmed that today.
