According to their installation instructions the EZ-Install uses a key with the top cut off and turned to "ON" in the ignition. You can also do one of the 3 types of regular install and follow the instructions here for locking steering columns and keys with chips.

You can set it to manual mode where you have to push the RFID tag for it to transmit the code. With over 6 billion codes I doubt someone is gonna be able to replicate your chip

So this thing will control the cranking? How does it know the car is running? And what kind of switch do you use to control it?

1) I would assume so, it plugs into the starter solenoid
2) That part beats me
3) Has a push-led switch that you push once to tell it to start and push again to shut off

Thats where I have issues with it, you might just eat up a starter with that thing, Viper has crazy microprocessors in their units to prevent over-cranking

it does not matter how many different types of installs there are, if the BCM does not see the Transponder in the black portion of the key it will not start doesn't matter if you hook a wire directly to the starter solenoid, it will crank but it will not fire.

-if you look at there 2 GO setup you still take that black portion with the transponder and put it inside the box which is no big deal but that'* how it operates on a passkey setup.

- looks like that unit works like a remote start would but I too would be worried about "engine checking" is it only engaging the starter at the exact moment you push the button? or is it a Voltage sense or even a predetermined/programmed crank time?

-the locking steering column could be in issue. if i remember correctly its a cable that attaches to the back of the ignition switch.

Seems like it sure would be alot of work for something so simple, to each his own though would look cool Im sure in the same spot as our key location.

Yah I just don't like all the questions we have that are unanswered, too many ways for things to go wrong, and things that aren't specific enough to figure out how exactly to interface it with Passkey III

I like my pushbutton because it is totally operational for starting the engine, and you can use the key just like normal if you only have one hand free when getting in the car or someone else drives when you are intoxicated
