all you guys are in some serious need of a heatshield. those intakes might sound cool, but they are probably costing you performance.

that chrome filter cover is not doing anything for blocking hot air.

As far as mine goes this is something I know and is also the reason I was very reluctant to post pics. I knew someone would disagree with this setup. However it is all I am able to afford and have the time for right now. I wanted to put the filter through the rad support but I may just do something altogether different.

a couple pieces of carefully cut cardboard would work pretty good.

i made mine out of pvc pipe from lowes. It works great and looks really good since i have a black metallic paint on it. It keeps out most heat even when i dont have the heat wrap on it. Of course it was for a regal so it is a fender well intake but ive seen many done only out of fiberglass which you can find at any home store and it was surround the cone behind the headlight and only about 1/4 on an inch think.

I would still try to get the cone away from the engine as possible and more towards where the air flows. Thats the only real thing you have to worry about and you can make a custom air intake for about 60 including the cone.

What I'll be doing it putting a custom-made plexiglass heatshield around the entire area in a big box, forcing the air to come from the fender, and keeping all hot air out. I will be making a cardboard mock-up then taking the measurements from that and then cutting the plexiglass. I'll have a write-up when done.

The purchased cover wasn't long enough to cover the entire filter. I wrapped some aluminum around the filter loosely to ensure the filter was completely covered.
It is still open enough, however to allow the fresh air in. Their is quite a gap between the metal and the filter.
I think I will build a better cover come spring time.

Sorry I didn't chime in here earlier, but the intake I see up above (multi-piece) is plastic, and not very good at all.

Stay away from all types of plastic.

I totally understand and will move away from the plastic, and this is also why I was so reluctant to post my pics of it. However this one is pretty much more than I could afford so for now it works fine. I don't think plastic is going to heatsoak so much in the temps I will be seeing for the next 4-5 months anyways.

Lose it for an improved airbox. You'll get better performance.

Well, that'* what I bought now, so I'm making it work. Be better than stock when I'm done with it, and that'* all that matters. That, and a fun project.
