OK, so I have a 92 olds 88 with 92K miles on it. Gave car to my daughter and has had issues since.Primarily driving along and car starts to cut in and out wile driving, i would floor the accelerator and the car would buck up and down and keep my speeds to under 20 MPH, then if coming to a stop the engine would cut out all together and have to be re started only to have same issues. Would let sit for 20 to 30 minutes then would run fine, then usually within a couple days start all over again.
So in the last 3 weeks I have done the following, replaced MAF sensor, replaced Crank Shaft position sensor and just finished replacing the plugs and wires 5 days ago. Ran great until today, stalling out, bucking when stepping on accelarator and rough idle. No check engine light, temperature of car is normal but am lost as what to do next. Throttle Position Sensor? Fuel pump? Someone please help, i cannot continue to have my 16 year old borrowing my Jeep lol.

I would move to checking fuel pressure when the symptoms are present, just to rule it out as a concern. Is it throwing any codes?
I did a simple check of pushing the fuel line "nipple" and the gas shot across the engine to the fire wall so i assumed it was all good. In regards to codes I am not sure how to check these? I will look into that. I appreciate your reply

a '92 should have flash code capability....jumper A to B(in the ALDL connector under the dash on Driver'* side), with key on, engine off......CE light will flash once, and then twice, indicating a 12.....it will do this 3x'* total.....then it will flash whatever codes are in the vehicle, each one 3 times......when it flashes 12 again, that is all there codes there are.....code 12 is not really a code, just an indicator that the system is working.
For example, if after flashing, "12" 3 X'*, it flashed twice and then three times, and then repeated it two more times, that would indicate a code "23", or air intake sensor circuit.....

Here is the test procedure for a TPS. But usually a problem with a TPS will set a DIC.

It really depends on the fault. My TPS was acting up for a long time, and I didn't realize it was the culprit until it got really bad, and even then, it was setting a code only about half the time. Originally Posted by joeld

If pulling the codes doesn't reveal anything, I recommend getting a fuel pressure gauge and seeing what the fuel pressure is actually doing. Autozone Loan-A-Tool and Harbor Freight are great sources for these.
I realize that this is an old thread but this info might be helpful for someone trouble shooting their cars. I had similar problems where my car would lose power then gain power and if i floored the gas it would do nothing or completely lose power. Also the car would not start again If I shut it off while symptoms were present. The culprit was my maf sensor. It was broken where the shaft meets the flat part causing it to get faulty readings. Out was like $110 new at advanced auto
