WHOA.

Average rent here for a 2 bedroom apartment is $450.00 a month.

$1089.00 a month here you can rent a 3 bedroom/2 bath colonial, ranch, split level, etc home, maybe bigger.

I miss Upstate NY. I had a 2-BDRM (apartment) with a balcony, nice view, nice and big, for $450/mo.

I have been looking at renting houses closer to work and the cheapest so far is a 2 BDRM for $1300 + utilities.

I give my brother $500 to live in his house. Way too damn much considering my location.

Average rent for a 2 Bedroom in Toronto is $1061.00/ month. Not much difference in pricing though.

"After Calgary and Vancouver, Toronto registered the third-highest average rent for a two-bedroom apartment in Canada, at $1,061. That'* up modestly by 1.2 per cent from a year earlier, or below the rate of inflation."

It'* very, very expensive to live here right now. Our economy is booming and everywhere you look there are 'Now Hiring' signs. Alberta has attracted many people to the workforce, but there'* just nowhere to live.

Some other stats include:

Calgary Metro House Stats
November 2007 Average Selling Price: $462,134 (up 13.1% from same period 2006)
November 2007 Median Selling Price: $407,500 (up 8.7% from same period 2006)
New Listings: 1,795
Sales: 956
Sales to New Listing Ratio: 53%
Sales to Active Listing Ratio: 19%
Current Inventory: 5,006

Calgary has a population of >1,000,000.

Not that long back, there were stories on the news regarding home sales. People would call and offer sellers more than the last person (frequently well above the asking price) and in some cases gathered on lawns to out-offer each other in good old fashioned "auction" style.
